The end of October sure snuck up fast! On Spirit Day (Oct. 31), we had a fun day. We practiced our word of the week: the and made healthy pumpkin faces. Each student earned at least a silver lunch that day! We have been continuing our unit on healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. Lunchbox Olympics is now over, but students still keep bringing healthy lunches. Great work! On Thursday, we created a food group display.

This past week we have also been finishing up our unit on patterns in math. The students are working hard to make a pattern quilt square to create our classroom pattern quilt. I cannot wait to see the finished product!
Division 8 is also starting a new science unit on force and motion. This week the students explored movement with balls, scarves, and bean bags. These are the ways the students could move their objects:

Our Classroom Contract
Over the past week our class has been working on creating a classroom contract. This is the final project for our lesson on governance for Social Studies. - Be quiet at the carpet
- Do not talk when others are talking

Meet Doug!

This is Doug our classroom dragon! Doug has a mailbox in our room and loves to read letters. Today the students each wrote Doug a letter. He will read every letter and write back each week by Friday. There have already been some wonderful questions to Doug like...
- "What is your favourite colour?"
- "How old are you?"
- "Do you have any pets?"

TH Turkeys!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving and all things turkey, Div. 8 made some great looking TH turkeys! The students have been practicing the 'th' sounds like the soft 'th' in thanks and the hard 'th' in the. The students did a 'th' hunt around the room to find as many 'th' words as they could in 10 minutes. Then, on each turkey's feather they wrote down a 'th' word that they found. There were some great words!
Here are some of the words students found:
- Thursday
- with
- the
- thanks
- this
- mother
- thirty
- thumb

Last Week: Patterns, Healthy Eating, and Keeping Our Buckets Full!
Last week our class worked on creating patterns using two colours. The students came up with a lot of different patterns like red, blue, red, blue, red, blue (ABABAB). Students then created other patterns using two colours: blue, green, green, blue, green, green (ABBABBABB). They all had fun coming up with as many different patterns as they could!
We also talked about healthy eating and practiced finding pictures of meat and alternatives around the room during our scavenger hunt. Div. 8 makes good detectives! We are also checking our lunches for all four food groups during this month's lunchbox olympics.
Last week we also talked about keeping our buckets full! We read How Full Is Your Bucket? For Kids by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer and talked about ways to keep everyone's buckets full by saying and doing nice things. Div. 8 had some great ideas about how to help keep everyone's bucket full!
